Narcissists, Normies, Schizos, and Psychopaths
Merry Christmas etc.
I can’t stop thinking about this meme. Check it out:
As a connoisseur of memes, the 4 quadrants format is always a fave of mine. Generally it’s taking the x-y graph of the political compass, which I was never taught in school and was therefore revelatory once I finally discovered it, because it makes understanding things so much easier, reinforcing my suspicion that education isn’t about understanding things —
— and adding something silly/absurd to it. For instance:
Another iconic 4-panel meme is the ‘strong men create good times’ one, which adds the directional flow element:
One of the most famous and versatile directional flow formats is, of course, this one:
The meme-o-verse is so rich, oblique, accurate, effortlessly responsive to the underlying truth of things, infinitely self-referential and evolving…what a fascinating life form. Wow, I just had a brief fantasy about teaching an Intro to Meme Theory class in grad school to a bunch of purple haired leftists. That was bizarre.
Anyway, back to the meme I’m currently obsessing over, and I’ll share it again here so you don’t have to scroll back up —
LOOK AT THIS. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful.
I mean, like I mentioned above, it was revelatory when I found the political compass meme. All I’d ever learned in school was uncontextualized jargon about different regimes here and there, and some were REAL BAD mmm’kay, and others “good”, and I never understood, or was taught, what any of it meant.
And FYI not only did I attend public school, but one of the worst imaginable public schools in the country, on the Navajo Reservation. Believe me when I say, whatever I’ve learned has been DIY. Fortunately for me, I’ve never sought political office or political anything, and so my interest in such matters has only sharpened lately as a result of wondering why everything’s so fucked up. There’s no better teacher than an earnest question.
SAME THING with the far more complex spectrum of people stuff; but unlike my zero political aspirations, I’ve always been extremely oriented to the world of interpersonal relating. I have spent my life being highly sophisticated along certain lines, and hopelessly remedial along others. Nothing normal applies to me there, and it’s a blessing and a curse. I’ve never been able to cue off of a baseline, either for what I should experience or expect. Miracles and monstrosities have arisen and subsided.
